What is BLU(Back Light Unit)?
Signals from LCDs are impossible to use without a light because they don't emit
light like CRT, PDP and FFD, A BLU makes the signal surface visible in the dark
by light up the background.
Structure of BLU
LED(Light-Emitting Diode) - LED Type :
Line LED, Surface LED, Spot LED.
CCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescence Lamp) is used for big products and LED is used
for small products like a mobile. (A diameter of CCEL, 16mm ~ 2.2mm is used
generally and life is about 15,000 ~ 60,000 hours)
Mold Frame
The mold frame is used to assemble all component parts such as luminescent
plating board, sheet types and the lamp. It's function is to maintain the form.
Reflector Sheet
It functions to reflect light coming out of the back-board of luminescent plating
and increase general brightness. It protects the loss of light from the back
side of luminescent plating board.
LPG, Light Guide Panel(=Luminescent plating board)
Acrylic paneling is generally used in construction. The component uniformly
spreads the light which comes into the lamp to the whole screen. It helps to
print consistent patterns on LGP. One ordinary lamp is used for the backlight
for a laptop. The taper type is characterized by being thicker on the lamp side
while thinning on the opposite side.
Diffuser Sheet
It makes the radiated light from LGP more consistent and soft. Also it makes
LGP's pattern(Dot or cross strips) remain hidden.
Prism or BEF(Brightness Enhancement Film)
It concentrates light and increases brightness, which had been decreased by
the spreadsheet. The prism sheet has a subtle pitch, as in the shape of a mountain,
and the lower side is vertical while the upper side is horizontal. Usually two
sheet are used as one set.
Protector Sheet
The prism sheet is used to protect from shock, stain and foreign material because
the prism sheet is very sensitive to these. Also it removes the indirect appearance
of vertical and horizontal prism sheet, Recently, prism sheet's function is
improved. The are more models that don't use protector sheets.
LED FPCB(Flexible Printed Circuit Board)
Component which makes LED(Light Emitting Diode) Luminescent when power is on
after putting LED on FPCB by SMT(Surface Mounted Technology).
