What is EL (Electro-Luminescence)?
EL is a light emitting display using a phenomenon that occurs when a high
electric
field contacts fluorescent material. The electrons accelerated by the electric
field
excite the electrons of the luminescent center added to the phosphor layer
inside.
When the excited electrons slow they release light energy. It is the next
generation
of light sources upon which the whole surface radiates light uniformly.
EL is used for the backlight of LCDs and also applied to the backlight of PDAs
(Personal Digital Assistant), Palmtop Computers, etc. It is even being used in
communication devices for its superior readability. It is used in the keypads of
cellular phones and as a backlight for advertising.
EL is thinner and more flexible than LED, and its whole surface is luminous with
little power consumption.

Special Alert
- Measurement point should be in the middle when measuring BM-7.
- Measure after verifying condition of constant voltage and frequency when
measuring luminance.
- Must leave more than 30 minutes in a dark room under 2 lux at normal
temperature when measuring luminance after testing high temperature and
humidity.
